Last week we welcomed in Autumn with fine Italian wines and award-winning Spanish cheeses, at the official opening of The Continental Pantry in Notting Hill. Already proving itself a successful brunch spot, the European influenced deli-come-wine-bar opened earlier this summer; a real project of love set up by enterprising friends Kate Cornell and Maria Castellanos, serving European food and wine with an emphasis on unique Spanish, Italian and French produce.
Kate and Maria have been friends for 20 years and grew up in between Madrid and London, also spending time living in several other countries. Sharing a passion in good food and wine, the pair have set out to find the best products from artisan producers across the continent to grace the shelves of their Ledbury Road shop.
Kate says, “Our aim is to add to the local community of Notting Hill by providing residents and visitors with a place to discover our wonderful selection of curated wines and food in a beautiful and welcoming space.”
Open seven days a week, the shop is the perfect space to enjoy a fantastic Italian roasted coffee during the day, a delicious glass of Chianti wine with a charcuterie board for lunch and the ideal place to catch up with friends and enjoy a cheese board with a glass of Verdejo wine before heading out.
Hero products include the jamón ibérico cured fo r 42 months with grated tomato from £16 and the ventresca tuna served with piquillo peppers and rocket from £14 . With a focus on artisan supporters they are the only London retailer for some of the finest French, Italian and Spanish delicacies and have travelled personally to many parts of these countries to source everything they sell.
The dining area towards the back of the store feels like a real hidden gem; a delightful, contemporary space lending itself well to private functions and intimate events. Kate will also be hosting wine tasting events on the first Thursday of every month, where
guests will be able to sample wine from especially selected regions in France, Italy and Spain.
