Reveal Best Hidden Hotspots for Foodies
Some of the best food in London isn’t found in expensive restaurants. It’s served on plastic plates, in paper napkins or between slices of crusty bread – on the street.
For foodies-in-the-know, the London scene is buzzing and the city has exploded into a cutting-edge culinary destination. Presidential Apartments (www.presidentialapartmentslondon.com), luxury concierged suites in Kensington, has curated behind-the-scenes ‘London’s Secret History of Street Food Tours’ to help navigate the metropolis, hunt down the tastiest street food from cult food trucks to historic markets and explore the surprising history behind the centuries-long food revolution in Britain.
Whether you’re a London newcomer or a local, a diehard gourmet or simply have an appetite for new eating experiences, the ‘London’s Secret History of Street Food Tours’ will provide a definitive experience of the city’s unique food culture.
Presidential Apartments has partnered with Emma Parker of Coutours (www.coutours.co.uk), a local guide, knowledgeable history buff and authority on some of the best hidden foodie hotspots in Zone One.
Interesting titbits about London’s surprising food history and fun facts about the area will be shared along the way for a deeper understanding of the evolution of British cuisine from the Dark Ages, to overseas influences from the Romans, colonial eras, the booming spice trade, exploration, immigration, to the modern day “foodie revolution”.
With opportunities to meet producers and stall-holders behind-the-scenes and numerous chances to sample the most vivid, authentic food available, the three hour tours will let small tour groups get under the skin of London’s culinary melting pot. Guests on the tour will definitely not go home hungry, with a day full of tastings, from oysters, chocolate, traditional British pies, artisan cheese – even the famous East London delicacy jellied eels.
First stop on the ‘London’s Secret History of Street Food Tours’ is Borough Market, the oldest food market in London dating back to the 13th century and a hive of activity. Emma will lead the way through the market’s historic winding passages, past the eye-boggling displays and deafening calls from traders.
Next the group will be led to Rope Walk/Maltby St Market, which began life under the railway arches in Bermondsey in 2010 and has since grown into a full-blown gastronomic haven – many global food trends have emerged here.
The ‘London’s Secret History of Street Food Tours’ will take place on Saturday mornings and are available to guests staying at Presidential Apartments’ luxury serviced apartment suites.
Prices are £28pp based on a min of 2, or £75 for a family of 2 adults and up to 3 children. Prices do not include travel costs, but do include a complimentary hot drink and some small bites of food along the tour.
Tour groups will be collected from the Apartments’ location in West London at 10am and will finish by 1pm. Tour groups will travel by public transport and on foot and will be a maximum of ten people.
Places can be booked via Emma Parker on 07934 781056.
